Formica® High Pressure Laminates (HPL) consist of layers of specially selected kraft and printed papers impregnated with thermosetting synthetic resins and fused together under heat and high pressure in a controlled environment so that the component parts consolidate to form a single high density sheet of laminate.

Formica® High Pressure Laminates comprises of:
A. A protective, transparent layer of alpha cellulose paper impregnated with melamine resin. This provides resistance to stains, heat, scratches and abrasion.
B. A printed sheet incorporating decorative colours or designs impregnated with melamine resin. This gives colour-fastness and clarity.
C. The core layers are kraft paper impregnated with phenolic resin, which provides the finished laminates the required strength, stability and flexibility.

By adjusting raw materials and manufacturing processes, the Formica Corporation have the capability to produce laminate sheets with different performance characteristics suited to many different applications.

Hign Pressure Laminates are commonly used in commercial and residential interior surfacing applications where durability, design & appearance, construction versatility and ease of maintenance are important factors.

Traditional residential applications include kitchen cabinetry, countertops and bathroom vanities, as well as horizontal and vertical surfaces in living rooms, family rooms and dinning rooms. The commercial applications include work surfaces, cabinetry, furniture, flooring, panels, countertops and interior walls, with end-use applications in offices, computer centers, airports, hospitals, schools, restaurants, hotels, retail stores, ships, and buses. High-pressure laminate is available in fire retardant and chemical resistant grades for special commercials applications.
